While I was walking my sister's dog around my local
arboretum this weekend (doesn't everyone have a local arboretum?!) I came
across these beautifully carved benches. I have no idea who the sculptor is -- only
that the fox bench was carved as a tribute to Dr Wilfred Fox who created the
arboretum and later donated it to the National Trust.
Layla and I appreciating the fox bench
Considering the
benches are carved out of tree trunks with chainsaws, the detail is absolutely
amazing. I also love this as an example of how well art and nature can be combined. And of course, I love any excuse to sit down!
Gorgeous owl chainsaw carving
See the carvings for yourself at Winkworth Arboretum, currently open 10am-6pm daily.
